Reading your own palm is a lovely, low-stakes way to get into palmistry — no special tools, just your hand, decent light, and a little curiosity. Here's a simple walkthrough to get you started.
Step one: pick a hand and get good light
Start with your dominant hand — the one you write with — since it's traditionally read for your present and your choices. Sit somewhere bright, relax your hand, and let it curve naturally rather than stretching it flat. Later you can compare it with your other hand to see what's changed, the idea we explore in how your two hands are read differently.
Step two: find the major lines
The three big lines are your anchors, and there's a full guide in a simple map of the palm's lines. In short:
- The line running across the top, below the fingers, is the line read for your emotional life.
- The line across the middle is the line tied to how you think.
- The line curving around the base of the thumb is the line read for vitality — and remember, it has nothing to do with how long you'll live.
Notice each one's depth, length, and shape, and jot down what stands out.
Step three: feel for the mounts
Next, the fleshy pads — the mounts. Notice which feel full and prominent and which feel flatter; the full ones suggest where the emphasis of your character sits. There's a guide to what each mount is read for to help you make sense of them.
Step four: take in the hand shape
Step back and look at the whole hand. Is the palm squarish or longer? Are the fingers short or long relative to it? That combination points to one of the four elemental hand shapes, which sets the broad temperament behind everything else.
Step five: weave it together
This is the real skill — and the fun part. No single feature means much alone; the picture comes from how the threads combine, exactly as we describe in how a reading is actually done. Ask yourself what story the whole hand tells, not what one line "says."
Keep it honest and light
Read your palm as gentle self-reflection, never as a prediction — and never read worry into it, especially around health or the life line. It's a mirror for who you are now, held for insight and fun, as we keep clear in what your hands can and can't reveal.
